I was reflecting upon the rhythm of our current society and the apparent disconnection with the ancient knowledge that connected us with nature and the natural cycles of life. I wondered how those lost connections might be playing a role in the increase of physical and psychological ailments in our current society and how can we, normal folks, make use of those ancient traditions to reverse the damage and the disconnection that is so present in our technocratical culture.
If we look at nature and the passing of seasons, we can see that the energy and the pace of life change and differ from one season to the next. It is like a secret map that gives you directions to the destinations or objectives/purposes you need to concentrate and focus on depending on the time of the year you focus on. Nature has this subtle and not-so-subtle way of telling us what we need; how can we listen to be in balance with the rhythm of life? It is an explicit wisdom that we currently take for granted as we try to go through life imposing our human and cultural agenda and expectations. We try to commit to a lifestyle that seems to be so similar all year around: work, do, perform, achieve, go go go… and although at times that is possible (e.g. During the longer days of late spring and summer), it feels like an unachievable task during the short days of late autumn and winter. So why are we programme to push through, to ignore our inner calling to slow down, to regroup and recover… And most importantly, how is that lack of attunement to the circadian rhythms affecting the increasing mental and psychological illness of our current times? Could this be playing an important role? And then, what can we do, individually, to amend and take action?
These are questions that I often ask my clients: How can you take responsibility for your own health? Can we start with the most simple aspectof observing and being aware? Can we learn from our surroundings and nature as the primary force of wisdom…
I leave you with those thoughts: Observe your life and see how out of tune you are with the song of life. Take action and embrace the healing that comes from being in harmony with nature.
